My Second interview

For people who have known me, they always describe me by saying to you that this person has white heart. He is a person that you used to see him a smile one on any way even if in the morning. Also, He is that person who tries to make friends and community of people around him to know their culture, behavior the people and he sometimes invites them to share food with him even if cup of tea. He used to be close to his friends when they are sad or having happyness, but he is not that person who says every thing hurt him from other people.

Preparations:

the easier thing for the prepare my interview was when I chose the country that I wanted to get knowledge about. The first country came in my mind when our Dr. gave us chance to choose was Oman. According to my father there are many cultures in this country. Also, some prophets died in Oman and their tombs are in differents cities there. Unfortunately, there are no many students in the United States from Oman, however I am so excited to do my interview about this country. Indeed, I have decided to research by using internet and meet pepole who are from Oman to know more. there is no doubt, Sultan has many objectives that let him more excied to do an interview with Omanis people which are;  I am trying to know my interviewee, getting answer on my questions, trying to know about Oman traditional and folklore, and other things I would include them during my interview with a person who will be with me in my second interview.

I was thinking about who I be able to get another person for my second interview and I did not have anyone in my mind to do with him this one. One day, while i was sitting lonely, one idea suddenly came in my mind to find a person for my second interview. I imagined I should used Omanis websites and looking for someone who has ability to give me some time to do an interview with him. When I liked that idea, I opened my Laptop and opened Google website, so, I wrote " Omanis chat". After that, I found many but I used one to inter to loke for someone. I have talked to many of them but most of them were young people. At that time, I felt I cannot find a person but before I sign out one person intited me. That person saw my text in the chat and felt he had free time and would like to talk with me and see what I was looking for. I introduced my subject to him and told him everything about why I was in the chat. When he saw me so interested to do that. He accepted to do with me this interview. So, we made an appointment between us to do it.

On Friday 10/26/2012, I opened my Skype at 8:00 pm and to meet with that guy who I had an appointment with him. After a few minutes, he came online and apologize for his coming later. I asked him about him about his work and everything around him and he said that " everythin is going well". We talked about his brother who was with him while I was talking to him. We laugh a little bit of that young boy because he told us fun story about what happened with him and his teacher. Before we began our interview I asked him that if I would like to publish our interview in my page in the internet, and he gave me permission by saying "it is ok".

 Whom I interviewed
I interviewed Abdullah A who is from Muscat, Oman. He is 27 years old

Interview report:

My  interview with Abdullah A went very well . It was very awesome because Abdullah opened up, so, he answered my questions by bring in that I was looking for. From what I learned through the interview,Abdullah comes from a city called Muscat. The city of Muscat located On the Gulf of Oman in the southern part of the Batinah coast. Confined between the Gulf of Oman and the Hajar Mountains east. Actually, He said that he had interested to study abroad but there were some reasons which did not allow him to go anywhere out of his country to complete his eduction. However, Abdullah mention that he has a good job with enough income what let him to feel ok. Abdullah currently works as operator in the biggest company for export Oil.

In my perspective the interview went over quiet well. In the interview there were parts I felt went very well. Some info I have got of him was interested me but some other went poorly. The first thing I noticed was Abdullah and I were very positivly. So, before we began record our interview, we took a look over our questions and exchanged a few words  and it made the questions feel more natural.

I was surprised Omanis people differ on their country when Abdullad said that " There are two kinds of people in Oman". Omanis people riches or poor. So," people who are in the high level in my country should marriage of other high level not of poor people" Abdullah says. Therefore,  he surprised me about Oman population. I had no more information about this country, before I did first and second interview Omanis people. This interview has helped me to understand Oman culture in the marriage and other things more that read about that in the books or whatever I use to learn about their culture.

 Country Report:

It is really helpful information for people who would like to know more about Oman country. I collected of Abdullah Some interesting things about his country such as distance, population, their king name, currency, and religious in that country. The population in Omanmore than 2.5 million. The king of Oman calls Sultan Qaboos bin Said and their currency is Rial. We halked about the religious in his country and he surprised me when he said most of the population treligion is Islam So,"73% of the population follow Alabaza tradition" he says , and there are Sunni and Shi'a Muslims, and there are Hindu.

The official language in Oman is Arabic. There are also several other languages spoken by the minority, such as Farsi, Urdu and Baluchi. English is used widely in the business community and government sectors to some extent. Although, there is no official policy calls for non-use of other languages but the government requires the use of the Arabic language in official communications and public legal documents

Oman is the second largest country in the Arabian Peninsula. Abdullah gave me some other things about is country when I asked that " May you give me some information about your country?". He came over with that Oman occupies the south-eastern part of the peninsula coastline extends for a distance of 1,700 KM. It Bordered by Saudi Arabia and the UAE to the west and south Yemen. Also, It meets Arabian Sea coast and the Gulf of Oman. Topography characterized by Omani diversity consists of plains, desert, mountains and valleys. Sahara comprise about 82% of the area of Oman. Likewise, Salalah is the administrative capital of the Dhofar city in southern Oman .

We started talking about Oman Law which is very important to people who may go there some time. While we were talking about Oman law. Oman Islamic country and committed to strict Islamic tradition and characterized by people's behavior and dress humbled in general. However, Abdulld mention about the law of using Alcohol in Oman. Abdullahtold me in Oman Completely prevent drug importation and the violator may be exposed to prison. Oman applies strict penalties for drug offenses. Alcoholic beverages are available in large hotels and restaurants, but it is not allowed except for holders of permits issued by the royal Oman Police to purchase Alcoholic beverages for private use at home. At least he said Oman quite modest towards other religions it facing a number of churches and temples for worship of other religions.

My first interview

Preparations:

In English 191 our Dr. Roland asked us to do three interviews and people who I am going to do with them my interview have to be from one country. So, I planned to do my first interview and I chose Oman country. One day when I was with some of my friends I asked them to find to me interviewees from Oman. At that time, one of my friends said that he has known a person from that country. After that, I took that person info and I contacted with him to do this interview.  When I called him to this interview, He accepted to do with me.

Execution:
In Friday 10/19/2012 I did the first interview with Salah from Oman country. At 4:30 PM I met with my interviewee in the library of Saint Cloud State University. Before we began our interview I asked him If he did not to record our interview and he said he did not mind to record it.  Then we took a room in the third floor of the library. We talked a little bit before we began the interview recording.

Observations:

As I got from my interview Oman has  old relation with United States, even before Saudi Arabia. Before this interview I thought Saudi Arabia has old relation then
other Asian countries. So, this info surprised me when I heard it.

Interview Transcription:
I am going to summarize a report that describes what happended between me amd my interviewee Salah. So, the description will be in the following.

First of all I asked him to tell me about himself, so, he said that “My name is Salah from Oman. I had wonderful childhood and I was quiet person as what my parents said to me. I graduated from high school and moved to the college to study my Bachelor degree of English language as second language. After four years I graduated And I decided  to complete my master. So, currently, I am doing my master degree".

As he said while we were talking about his plan in the future, Salah has planned to back to his country after his graduate. He gave me several reasons that support his plan to back to his country and getting a job there such as he would like to be close to his parents when they need him to help. Then, I took another way to question about why he chose St. Cloud University to study. So he said that “I heard about this university from some people and I did research in the internet to get some info that is why I chose it to his study". We talked about the differences in the educational systems between Oman and North America and he gave me some differences for example; in Oman There are public school, elementary, and preparatory secondary school and in the North America thereare primary school, middle, and high school. He said that “However, for post-school; colleges and universities, in Oman, before you start college, you know what you will be studying. In America, it is different, first you talk general, then, you decide what you want to study".
1)
I got some information about Oman when I asked Salah to talk to e about his country. He told that “Officially, my country called "The Sultanate of Oman". Indeed, it is  an Arab state in southwest on the Northeast coast of the Arabian peninsula, and it is bordered by Emirates to the North, Saudi Arabia to the West and Yemen to the South. The title of Oman ruler is “Sultan Oman" his name is Qaboas bin Said Albusaidi and his family has been ruling Oman for hundred years. The capital of Oman is Muscat". He also talked about Oman income and said that " the main reason of income Oman is Oil followed by tourism and industry.

We talked about the marriage in Oman, so he talked about that in a few minuts. Salah told that the traditional way of getting married is very interesting to him.  First, he said “Man who wants to get married is supposed to be willing to face the marriage life and is ready financially. If a man had a girl in his mind, he would go to his family and talks to them he wants to propose to a girl. His family makes an appointment with a girl's family to ask for the hard of their girl. Then, the families meet and they get to know the man who is getting married. After that, he said the girl will be asked whether she or she accepts propose. If she accepts, the two families schedule a day, usually Thursday to sign the marriage contract. After sometimes, wedding is held and the group’s family makes a big feast for relatives. Then, the man goes to the girl's home and takes his wife with his father, mother, sisters and his brothers.

On the other hand, we talked about Oman activities, so, he talked about sport and he said there are several activities such as playing soccer, football, and swimming. After that he talked about volunteering for example; cleaning valleys, beach’s helping poor people. However, we talked a little bit about Oman holidays; so, Salah said they have three kinds of holidays which are National Day, two religions Aids, and Prophet Mohammed Birthday.
After several majors subjects we had talked about, I decided to ask him about miner subject and I said that “what is your traditional food?"  He said that “My traditional food is something called Third" Salah describe that food for me and told that "it is mix of bread, veg, and chicken or lamb and cooked in a think gravy.

I tried to ask him about the political system in Oman structured but I did not get specific answer on this question. I think he did not understand my question or he did not have any idea about that what whatever he talked far away about ma
ny question and I did not interrupt him to say I do not want this answer. Likewise, we talked about major religions in Oman, so he said that “Oman 100% Muslim countries but there are some people non Muslim who come to Oman to work from others countries".

When we began talk about offensive in Oman and he said the offensive things for instance; dirty words, not respecting parents, and misbehaving in any ways. In contrast, we talked about the differences between Oman culture and United States culture. So, he just said that " Oman is a collection society, where as America has individual one"

Before we end the interview I asked him if there is anything he would like to add before we end. Salah mentioned that the United States of America has ancient relationship with the State of Oman and this relationship be more than 40 years, the first Arab country had formed a relationship with America. finally, I asked him if there is any question for me I have had  pleasure of asking you about so many things but he told me thank you I did not have any question, so I told him that " It is nice to talk to you Salah And thank you very much for your patience to answer my questions".

If a man had a girl in his mind, he would go to his family and talks to them he wants to propose to a girl. His family makes an appointment with a girl's family to ask for the hard of their girl. The title of Oman ruler is “Sultan Oman" his name is Qaboas bin Said Albusaidi and his family has been ruling Oman for hundred years. The capital of Oman is Muscat". He also talked about Oman income. the main reason of income Oman is Oil followed by tourism and industry
1:The most important that Saudi Arabia has borders with Oman.
2: hhhhh yah.
2: here one question asks about why I chose SCSC for my Master degree. Actually,I heard about this university from some people and I did research in the internet to get some info that is why I chose it to my study.
1: Oh nice.
1: So, what are differences in the educational systems between Oman and North America?

the North America thereare primary school, middle, and high school.

2: of course US and then Oman.
1:So, why do you say that ?
2: Yah, lets take a look over universities systems in Oman and United States you see the difference between them: for post-school; colleges and universities, in Oman, before you start college, you know what you will be studying. In America, it is different, first you talk general, then, you decide what you want to study.
1; Of couse we have like that as what you said about Oman education systems in Saudia Arabia.
1: So, If I had children, what kind of activities my kids would find in your country?

1; Now way, you are the best trust me. I tasted some food you cooked a few months ago.
2: I did not say I am not good cooker but I have eaten with you sometimes and your cooking very delicious. I know how to cook some but not too much.

Challenges and benefits of interviewing an international student (or an US student)

Everyone has to choose a country that he has ability to findinternational students to get answers on his/her questions. in the modern time, it is easy to find international student anywhere you go but difficult to find a person who gives you a correct answers on your question. As we know there are many things a person  looks in his/her interview of other people. Actually, I went through the internet to read about this subject and there was sentence caught my attention " If some basic  guidelines  are followed  and  combined  with  practice, the  craft  of  interviewing  can  become  an  art"(1) Yes It could be art in some day as what this writer says. There are more benefits than challenge of doing interview with international students.

First of all I would like to talk about the benefits of interview. It is awesome way to do interview with people to learn about their cultures. As we have special culture other people would like to know about it, we also try to know others people cultures and traditional. Second, Achieving ways to be a success person  of asking other people who have experience. Asking international students about their food and what is the main meal for his/her country.the reason that I would like to know about their main meal is to invite some interviewees to share that sometimes. It is better to ask about his or her goals after his/her graduates to know what some goals better for your future.

Even though there are many benefits of the interview also, there are some challenge of that between a person and his/her interviewees. We do not forget that some student have been studying English language for a year or less than that and it is difficult to understuand much about using words and verb tens in their speack.Indeed, Some people do not have experiense to deal with these student and they do not know how they can explain more easyer for international students to understand the main point of the question. Of course in the United States of America is not difficult to find internastional students from some countries but if I think about the country that I chose for my interview which is Oman, I would say there just a few students in the U.S in the separates area of this country.

In conclusion, doing interview with international students could be challenge and benefits for a person who likes to do it. I say challenge because it is difficult to find international sometimes, misunderstanding between interviewees in some points, and because English language is second language students do not have many words they have known. Also, It has benefits such as learning about a person's family, hehavior, goals, and his culture and traditional. Finaly, I would recommend people to do like that even who are from The United States of America to know about other people cultures.

My favorite countries

My interview  that I am going to do after a few days will be about three countries in my favorite. I am technology person, and natural view. Every country of these three countries has something that I like. I choose three countries for my interview wich are; Oman, China, and Kuwait.

I choose Oman for several reasons to be the first contry in my interview. It has a wonderful natural city I have seen in my life. I was going over some website to read about Oman and through my reading I find “I reaffirm the necessity to give tourism a priority in the future development programme'' Their king Sultan Qaboos says(1). So, there are more that 5 million Tourists come to this city annually. Likewise, this county has some of the tombs of the prophets which interest some people.

China is the biggest country of the technology in the modern time(2). Most of its young people try to complete their education because it's difficult to get job, and that means they have ambition to develop their technology to become helpful for world. Also, they have own language  which people are trying to study it right now.

Kuwait and Saudi Arabia have similarity in their culture and resources, I was going over some websites to collect information about this country and through that I found "On February 22nd, 1938, oil was discovered in the Burgan field of Kuwait"(3). people who are living in Kuwait have relationship with who are living in Saudi Arabia that is why I chose it to be third country of my favorite. If I would talk about resources ,so,Al Kuwait country has a good resource and exports of oil.

thru my reading about these three countries I found a lot of information that may help me to do a good interview with their people. I will do my best to cover most part of my interview with people who are from these countries.

Enter and read why students choose books.

Actually I read more than five blogs posted from my classmates. So, I notice differents ideas because everyone has a reason why he chose his book. Every student has Main reason of choosing a book to take a look.

One of the students chose book what is talking about horses because he is interested in them and he own some that is why he chooses this kind of a book and the book he read is called "Horse Thief".

The reference of this book is: Robert Newton Peck, Horse Thief.

. Another another student says "I enjoy reading about Mythologies of the World". the book he chooses is "Mythologies of the World". He does not have  a lot of explain about why he chooses this book that is why I cannot tell anymore of  choosing that book.
The reference of his book is: It printed in Italy in 2001
A student who chooses abook under this tittle "South Asia" mention that he is from China and he would like to know about others countries in his continent.
The reference of his book is: Caldwell,J.C(1960). South Asia.page 9. Lowell,Vermonet:john day company.
This student says that he chooses that book because its title catch his attention. Of course sometimes a tittle catch a reader attention I totally agree with this gay. Actually, this student has not completed yet his post about write about what he says. His comment caught my attention.
This student says that he chooses the book because it talks about his country history and he is interested on that. He is from China  and because it has a long history, he would like to read about it.

The reference of his book is: IMMAUEL C. Y. HUS “The Rise of MODERN CHINA”, The Oxford University Press Inc,  New York 1970, page 718.

The common reasons of their choosing, they read about their interesting. I totally agree with that Everyone should read about his/her interesting. If a person read about what he/she likes, her/she will get an advantage of his reading. I hope they enjoy reading the books they chose.
